Moor Allerton – Clipper Logistics Championship

    Hi all,

Sorry it has been so long since I wrote any updates, my computer has been broken and I have only just managed to hand it in now and get it fixed.

I played the Clipper Logistics Championship at Moor Allerton near Leeds from the 6th to the 8th of August. It was a very interesting course with a lot of undulation and a few greens which were almost unputtable if you hit it in the wrong spot but it was in very good condition and we got quite lucky with the weather as it was very windy during the practice days which made it hard.

The first day I hit the ball very nicely and despite having bogeys on 3 and 4 I managed to scramble to get to level par after 13 holes. I had a poor bogey on 16 due to a bit of a miscue off the tee but I holed a 25 foot birdie putt on 17 and then hit a great approach into the par 5 18th to 6 feet and holed that for a birdie to finish and a round of 1 under par 70. It was my first full event since I had started working with a new mind coach and I felt that I was much more focused and dealt with making mistakes in a much more positive manner. I basically told myself whenever I made a bogey that I was swinging the club well and that I could make plenty bogeys to counteract them.

The second round I was teeing off in the morning and started very well indeed, I had a good up and down out the green-side bunker on 10(my first hole) before I hit a great tee shot to 8 feet on the 11th and a chip to 12 feet on 12 and holed both the putts to be 2 under par after 3 holes. I made 2 bogeys on 15 and 16 but remained calm and made a great birdie on the 18th, hitting a 5 iron out the semi rough to 12 feet and holed it for birdie. I played the front 9 very conservatively, I hit lots of greens and just missed for several birdies. I parred holes 1-7 and then bogey the par 3 8th due to short siding myself with my tee shot. I then played my last hole perfectly, it was the hardest hole on the course and I hit a 3 wood off the tee and then a 6 iron to 8 feet before rolling it in for a birdie to finish with another round of 1 under par 70.

The final day we had some mixed weather with showers blowing through the area, I hit a lot of good shots during the round but couldn’t quite hit it close enough to give myself a lot of birdie chances. I birdied the 6th hole after holing a 20 foot putt and made all pars on the first 9. I had bogeys on 13 and 16 which ended up having me signing for a round of 1 over par 72 and a 3 round total of one under. This finished me tied 37th and although it wasn’t as high as I had hoped going into the last day I was still happy with my overall performance for the week and felt like I had made a lot of improvements on all aspects of my game especially the mental side of it.
