    Europro Q School 2015

    Hi everyone,

Finally it seems like the weather might start to be getting slightly better, I hope everyone is dusting off the clubs and looking forward to getting back out on the courses for the new season.

Last week I was down in Oxfordshire for the final stage of Q school for the Europro tour 2015 season. It was a beautiful week of weather and we played one round on each course in order to decide who got what category for the new year.

I played on the blue course the first day and had a lot of very good things happen. I had 2 birdies and 5 bogeys. I hit 12/14 fairways and 17/18 greens in regulation, unfortunately I didn’t hole many putts as the greens were poor. I hit a lot of very good iron shots into around about 15 feet and just didn’t get much to drop as you really had to be inside 10 feet to have a realistic chance of a birdie. I had a round of 75 and knew I would have to have a better round the next day in order to make it to the Friday.

The second round I was playing on the red course. I started on the 10th hole and managed to go round with 3 birdies and 2 bogeys in a round of one under par 71 on what is the harder of the two courses. The greens were a little better than the first day but I still didn’t get many putts to hole. I once again hit it very well and hit 13/15 fairways and 14/18 greens in regulation. Unfortunately I missed the cut by 2 shots but I got a category 12 status for the tour which will more than likely allow me to get into every one of the 15 events, at a very minimum I shall get into 12 of them.

I have worked very hard over the winter on my mental game and I can honestly say the changes I felt in my attitude and mental approach on the course were very noticeable. I felt like I was in control of my shots and committed to almost all of my shots which in turn made me hit it well. I have been doing some swing changes with Sandy Smith my coach and feel like they are starting to help a lot as well as my work in the gym with Craig from Golffit.

My putting and chipping are also all looking good and once I get into the regular season which starts on the 13th of May at Celtic Manor I cannot wait to get out there and be competing towards the top of the leaderboard as I feel every area of my game is getting towards where I want it to be.

Thank you to everyone for their support and I look forward to bringing you good news once the season starts in May.

Practice time now, after Speith’s performance in the masters I need to practice harder than ever.

    Thanks for reading,

    Neil
